The Seneca Valley Screaming Eagles came back from an early five-run deficit to defeat Clarksburg on Saturday at the Eagle’s Roost, 6-5.
Starter Brian Black, making only his second start of the season and first in 26 days, was rusty early as the Coyotes scored five runs in the first two innings.
Clarksburg senior Josh Creighton drove in two runs with a double and scored on an error in the first inning. Second baseman Brendan Milligan pushes across two more runs in the second with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Brody Milligan.
However, Black shut out the Coyotes for the next 4 and 2/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season before Tyler Klitsch came on in relief in the top of the seventh inning with the game tying run on third to get the save.
The Eagles started their comeback by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third and completed the comeback by scoring two runs in the sixth inning on a single by Jake Fort and a game-winning RBI from Max Nicholson, who took one for the team on a hit by pitch to force in Steven Ruiz (two runs scored) for the go ahead run.
Erich Bacchus counted two doubles among his three hits, scoring a run and driving one in.
The Eagles, who were coming off a lopsided loss to Damascus, are now 7-2 in defense of their 3A West Region Championship and will return to the Roost Monday to take on Bethesda-Chevy Chase at 3:30. Clarksburg (2-5) faces Kennedy at home Monday.
